DECEMBER RACE ROUND UP

December proved to be a fitting way to close out 2025, bringing a packed calendar of racing that included coastal routes, trails, track ultras, festive road races and some impressive club turnouts. Bitton runners were out in force across a wide range of events, delivering strong performances to round off the year.

Endurance Life Dorset 10K

Liz Sanigar and Arwel Roberts kicked off the month on a demanding Dorset coastal course. Liz finished in 56:25 to place 3rd female overall and 1st FV45, while Arwel followed closely in 56:37, taking 1st MV55. A strong start to December with two age-category wins.

Race The Light Half Marathon

On the same day, Calum Thompson took on the challenging Race The Light Half Marathon, battling climbs, mud and water crossings to finish in 2:32:14.

The Christmas Chilly 10K

Felicity March braved the cold conditions to record a solid time of 56:07 in this festive-season race.

Street 5K

Bitton runners produced a strong set of midweek performances at the Street 5K:

  • Alfie Brown led the club home in 17:22

  • Joe Stevens followed in 18:59

  • Richard Kershaw finished in 19:46

  • Robyn Hinsley ran 21:10

  • Steve Herring clocked 26:21

  • James Wade completed the course in 30:29

Weston Prom

The usual fast but blustery conditions greeted runners at Weston Prom:

  • Nick Stopard: 31:26

  • Charles Hann: 32:50

  • Jackie Hann: 40:12

Barcelona 24 Hour Track Race

Brian Robb produced a remarkable performance in Barcelona, completing 202 kilometres in 24 hours. His run included a 100-mile personal best of 15:28:23, marking a significant achievement in ultra-running.

Celtic Trail Marathon

Bryan Stadden tackled the challenging off-road Celtic Trail Marathon, finishing in 5:47:18 on a course featuring significant climbing.

Christmas Cracker

Bitton had a huge presence at the Christmas Cracker, with 45 club runners taking part. Alongside the strong turnout, the club also impressed in the fancy dress competition, finishing second overall. Alfie Brown led the club home in 40:18, with strong performances throughout the field from seniors, veterans and first-time racers alike.

Malaga Half Marathon

Claire Wallace took Bitton colours abroad at the Malaga Half Marathon, finishing in 1:50:45 in warm conditions to round off her racing year.

Westonbirt House Christmas 10K

Closer to home, Ellen Whitby and Neil Davies enjoyed the scenic Westonbirt House course:

  • Ellen Whitby: 52:02

  • Neil Davies: 53:28

Forest of Dean Christmas Tree Race

Bryan Stadden was back racing again at the Forest of Dean Christmas Tree Race, finishing in 54:15.

Clevedon Boxing Day 4 Mile Race

A strong Bitton turnout of 21 runners took part in the Boxing Day tradition at Clevedon. Alfie Brown led the club home in 22:33, followed by Nick Stopard, Charles Hann and Richard Kershaw, with solid performances throughout the field, including family groups and junior runners.

Seven Sins

To close the year, Anna Avery and Matt Wood took on the demanding Seven Sins race. They crossed the line together in 1:14:53, finishing the year with a strong display of teamwork on a tough, hilly course.

December delivered a wide variety of racing and an excellent end to a successful year for the club. Congratulations to everyone who raced, supported, volunteered or represented Bitton throughout the month. Here’s to more blue and yellow on start lines in 2026.
